Updates on GHC Shakeups

Email Update | May 28, 2025

In response to the recent corrective actions by DOD and TRANSCOM regarding the failing GHC rollout, Movers for America issued the following statement:

“On behalf of the independent contractors and the businesses — large and small — who work together to move our military families, we commend Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for taking decisive action to address the failing Global Household Goods Contract (GHC). As Secretary Hegseth rightly stated, the program ‘is not working and it’s only getting worse.’ We also appreciate his candid acknowledgment that ‘GHC rates fail to reflect market rates.’

“The GHC’s rigid structure ignores the economic and logistical realities of military moves, reflecting a fundamental misunderstanding of the efficiencies required to serve those who serve our country. While functional technology is vital for communication and coordination, the true backbone of a successful program is ensuring moving professionals are fully equipped to efficiently pack, haul, store, and deliver. We welcome Secretary Hegseth’s promise to ‘act decisively to improve, terminate, or transfer GHC or ToS responsibilities as needed’ and urge the DOD to include experienced industry representatives on the task force that will advise on how to course correct. Movers for America remains dedicated to ensuring the highest quality moving experience for our service members and their families.”

State Moving Associations Sound the Alarm on GHC Rollout

In recent weeks, several state moving associations have raised red flags with their Congressional delegations over the troubled GHC rollout. Their letters highlight serious concerns about GHC viability during Peak Season and the troubling lack of transparency around GHC performance data. Amid growing concerns from moving professionals and military families about the contract’s significant logistical shortcomings, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has pledged to address the failures.

Ahead of Peak Season, these associations urged lawmakers to take a closer look:

As the DOD’s Personnel & Readiness and Acquisition & Sustainment offices select members for the new Task Force charged with identifying solutions for a military moving program, industry representation will be essential to developing a viable long-term path forward.
