Future of Military Moving

Email Update | August 28, 2025

Next week, the PCS Joint Task Force will deliver its first set of recommendations to the Secretary of Defense — a pivotal moment for the future of the military moving program. After an open and constructive forum with the task force, we’re hopeful their proposal will chart a new path forward: one grounded in competition, accountability, and, above all, the best possible service for the 300,000 military families who move each year.

As part of this process, Movers for America shared educational resources with the task force, including industry research and insights into the vast network of professionals who make each relocation possible — from van lines and agents to the independent contractors.

This progress wouldn’t be possible without the collective voices of movers, service members, and elected officials who stood up for military families. Together, we are ensuring that America’s best receive America’s best.

We look forward to learning more about where officials see this program going, and how they recommend getting there.

PCS JTF holds spouse townhall

This week, the Task Force held a virtual town hall to hear from military spouses throughout the country. Below is a summary shared by the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service:

U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Lance Curtis, PCS Joint Task Force commanding general, hosted the town hall to capture the experiences of military families and inform their recommendations to the Secretary of Defense from those affected by PCS moves. PCS Joint Task Force leaders and experts from every branch of the military facilitated the discussion and heard firsthand accounts from spouses worldwide, in various situations, about the challenges they faced during PCS moves.

The team came together to tackle three main topics:

  • How the Department of Defense can better prepare service members and families for the PCS season.
  • Concerns about the quality of service from movers and the industry at large.
  • Challenges with the household goods claims process.
