As a result of our military’s recent strike on Iran and ongoing combat operations, the PPA announced 3 major developments to increase security domestically and abroad:
- Suspension of the Trusted Traveler Program
- Increased security checks at military installations, and
- Stop Shipment Order for certain international destinations
Given the current global security environment and ongoing military operations, the moving and storage industry fully understands and supports the need for heightened security measures. At the same time, these developments could have an immediate impact on the pickup and delivery of household goods.
One immediate impact has been the suspension of the Trusted Traveler Program, a useful tool in streamlining base access for vetted movers with all the required credentials. We’ve already heard from some crews that it’s taking longer than 2 hours to get onto bases, which kickstarts a ripple effect of delayed deliveries and pickups.
For TSP’s that are experiencing delays, please refer to page 51 of 400 NG, which outlines procedures for requesting waiting time in excess of free waiting time.
MFA’s Executive Director has already been in contact with several moving professionals about how the recent developments are impacting their shipments. We plan to share some recommendations with the PPA based on what we’ve been hearing to help keep shipments running as smoothly as possible while keeping military families informed.
Please reach out to Katie ([email protected]) with your insights, ideas, or any questions.
Become an MFA Ambassador
We recently rolled out our National Ambassador Network, designed to elevate industry voices, strengthen relationships with policymakers and military families, and advance policies that improve the Permanent Change of Station moving experience.
The Ambassador Network will be anchored by two councils: the Advocacy Council and the Military Family Council. Each council will be composed of three representatives per region to bring diverse perspectives and hands-on experience to MFA’s advocacy and outreach efforts.
If interested, please email MFA Executive Director Katie McMichael at [email protected].
