ALERT: Army Pauses New PCS Moves

The Headquarters of the Department of the Army has reportedly paused all new and in-progress Permanent Change of Station (PCS) moves due to the ongoing government shutdown.

Exemptions appear to include service members who have already departed their bases or those whose moves are related to accession (new enlistment or commissioning).

What happens to families still on base whose household goods have already shipped?
What about those who’ve closed out their housing agreements but remain waiting for travel authorization? While national guidance remains unclear, some local bases are beginning to offer updates to help families navigate this uncertainty.

U.S. Army Garrison Hawaii shared some helpful tips for their local military families in the video below. Commander Col. Rachel Sullivan confirmed that local families who have already moved out of their housing will be considered to have departed and will be allowed to continue their PCS move.

Although active-duty military remain on duty during the shutdown, roughly 55% of Department of Defense civilian staff are furloughed, including those supporting training, procurement, and administrative logistics. This has caused major disruptions, confusion, and stress for our nation’s heroes.

Until clearer federal guidance is released, we urge all affected families to contact their local transportation office for direction.

If your company or local base has issued updated guidance, please share it with us so we can help spread the word and support those caught in this evolving situation.

Together, we can help ensure our military families get the clarity and compassion they deserve during this challenging time.
