The U.S. Senate is proposing a grant program for Level 2 Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC), and MFA is making sure that military movers are eligible.
The Senate’s version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) — the annual defense policy bill that establishes the budget, policies, and priorities for the Department of Defense — includes a proposed grant program that would provide eligible companies with one-time grants of up to $100,000 to help offset the cost of obtaining a Level 2 Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) assessment conducted by a Certified Third-Party Assessment Organization (C3PAO).
Unfortunately, as currently written, the legislation would exclude moving and storage companies participating in the Defense Personal Property Program. While Transportation Service Providers (TSPs) are required to achieve and maintain Level 2 CMMC compliance, they meet that requirement through a Level 2 self-assessment rather than a C3PAO assessment, making them ineligible for the proposed grants.
Movers For America is actively advocating for changes to the legislation so that TSPs are eligible for this important grant program. These funds could help thousands of small moving and storage businesses offset the significant costs of complying with the DOW’s cybersecurity requirements while continuing to serve military service members and their families.
The Senate Armed Services Committee has approved its version of the NDAA, but the bill still has to be considered and passed by the full Senate before it moves to negotiations with the House.
