Peak Season is Coming

Email Update | April 9, 2025

We’re about a month away from military moving peak season – how is everyone feeling?!?

Whether getting 21 days heads up under the GHC, or operating under the DP3 and stepping in to make sure that military families and their belongings make it to their new base, we all know the coming months are going to be stressful.

If your business needs more support, clarity, or help reaching out to your U.S. Congressmen and Senators, don’t hesitate to reach out. Our Executive Director, Katie McMichael, is ready to provide assistance and guidance. Katie can be reached at [email protected].

Here are some concerns being shared about the impending peak season:

National Military Familiy Association: PCS Moves: GHC Breakdown & Status Update

“Military families have been caught in the middle of a rocky transition to the Department of Defense’s Global Household Goods Contract (GHC), a $20 billion initiative designed to streamline and improve the military moving experience. Intended to fix a fragmented system plagued by lost shipments, delays, and inconsistent service, GHC was awarded to HomeSafe Alliance to consolidate oversight and create accountability for PCS moves. Three years later, families are still facing serious challenges….As Gen. Reed himself stated, the success of the GHC will ultimately be defined by the experiences of military families. That experience must be improved immediately. READ MORE

ATA MSC Voices Industry Concerns Regarding DP3 Rate Filing Rejections and Rate Reasonableness

In the past 24 hours, many ATA-MSC members have learned that TRANSCOM has rejected rates submitted by their companies. In response, we have formally written to TRANSCOM to express the industry’s strong concerns and highlight the risks these actions pose in further disrupting service members and their families.

Last month, we joined with IAM in requesting the methodology that TRANSCOM was using to arrive at these decisions. We have not received those answers and have asked for them again. In addition, we’ve requested that they

  1. Restore the competitive range (rate reasonableness criteria) to accurately reflect market and operational conditions,
  2. Repeat DP3 Round 1 rate filings using objective criteria and reinstate fairness and market-driven competitiveness to the DP3 program and
  3. Provide a response to our March 7 request for rate filing methodology.

Stefan Cordiero, President of Stewart Moving and Storage shared his concerns in a letter to TRANSCOM Commander Lt. Gen. Reed and Andy Dawson:

“This isn’t about legacy providers being unwilling to adapt. It’s about needing a system that’s fair, sustainable, and built to deliver the level of service our military members and families expect and deserve. From the outside, it appears that while the government is paying a reasonable amount to move service members, too little of that is making its way to the actual service providers doing the work.”

And Jeanette Homan, President of Lambert Enterprises Inc., detailed her concerns with the future of military moves under the GHC in a Facebook post:

“The future of military moving is at stake, and if we fail to act now, service members and their families will suffer. I have had many service members walk into my office the last few months begging for assistance with their move! Sir, this is a travesty for our DOD.  Ultimately, this crisis will undermine readiness and morale among our warfighters, weakening our ability to protect our great country.”
