Peak Season Home Stretch
If the buzz we’re hearing is true — that more than 5,700 military family shipments have been given back by the GHC contractor to TRANSCOM for rebooking under the Legacy system (DP3) — is it finally time to cry “Uncle”?
This failure would be a major indication that the GHC doesn’t have the capacity to handle these moves. If true, thousands of military families are left scrambling to figure out how their belongings will make it across the country — right as peak season looms. Meanwhile, professional movers in the Legacy program are once again being called in, last-minute, to save the day on shipments the GHC has had weeks, if not months, to prepare for. This would also put enormous pressure on local base personnel who have to work with families and movers to rebook these moves.
Let’s not forget — the GHC already gave itself a pretty cushy advantage by only accepting shipments with at least a 21-day lead time. Apparently, that wasn’t enough.
What’s astonishing is that back in 2022, TRANSCOM took issue with the DP3 Program returning just 58 moves throughout the entirety of Peak Season, which sees about 150,000 military families move from May through August. So if what we are hearing is true, the problem is literally 100 times worse – and peak season hasn’t even started.
With all the speculation surrounding the alleged 5,700 shipments, why hasn’t TRANSCOM attempted to clear up any of this confusion? A media update from TRANSCOM could help explain the issue and provide useful information so families and movers can plan for peak season. Why the crickets on this?
As a reminder, TRANSCOM is more than 1.5 years past the initial GHC goal of full domestic implementation. Is this the new norm? Or is it time to seriously ask, “Together, do we deliver?”
