Movers for America has announced the addition of longtime transportation and logistics policy expert Katie McMichael as the coalition’s Executive Director. McMichael will help coordinate efforts to educate U.S. elected officials and policymakers about the unique challenges facing private moving companies as they service military household goods shipments, with an emphasis on how the new Global Household Goods Contract will impact American businesses and military families.
“The 300,000 military household moves that happen each year are largely handled by small moving and storage businesses and owner-operators,” McMichael said. “With major changes to military moves on the horizon, the very industry that’s needed to support military relocations has been left out of the conversation. I’m proud to join this group of hardworking professionals to help reclaim our seat at the table so we can resume the industry’s collaborative efforts with TRANSCOM and Congress to ensure that military families receive the best services possible.”
Katie McMichael brings considerable policy and moving and storage industry expertise. She previously served as Executive Director of the American Trucking Association’s Moving and Storage Conference, overseeing the creation of the Moving and Storage Conference in August 2020. Prior to joining the association, McMichael served as director of government affairs for the American Moving and Storage Association, where she worked as the organization’s lead lobbyist responsible for educating and increasing the presence of the household goods industry with Capitol Hill staff and legislators, and directed grassroots efforts within the association. She has also held positions with Aurora Innovations, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, and Florida Congressman John L. Mica.
